Search the NTSB accident/incident reports to see if it's been bent. Check the FAA registry for ownership and serial number.
A note here about registrations: It is our estimate that fully 10% of all GA aircraft are registered with the wrong production year, so don't be surprised if it's a year off (in either direction).
